New to Rowing? Try our program out for a week free of charge!
The Middle School Winter Rowing program is open to athletes in 6th grade – 8th grade. Athletes will practice rowing technique on the indoor rowing machines, participate in circuits designed to improve mobility and fine motor skills, and learn simple weight-lifting techniques with minimal weight.
In young athletes, fine motor skills are still developing and the staff at NRC find that focusing on these skills can ease the learning curve if the athletes choose to progress through the Middle School and High School programs. NRC Coaches also focus on teaching correct form for all the exercises and lifts used. This promotes healthy exercise habits by allowing the athletes to develop smart, safe, and conscious form for each lift.
The coaches at Newport Rowing Club understand that before true interest and passion can be developed, student-athletes need to enjoy what they do. All these goals are accomplished in a fun and engaging environment to help the athletes to grow to love rowing as a lifelong activity.
As this program occurs during the Winter months of the year, it does not include taking boats out on the water. However, on nice days, the coaches may take the workouts outside!
